The Mystery Box
On Monday the children arrived to find a mystery parcel had been left on the carpet with a sign that said 'Do NOT Open'. During their English lesson they spent time guessing what was inside by listening to it, watching to see if it moved and shaking it. They then wrote their ideas on speech bubbles.
On Tuesday the children found the parcel had been left again, but this time it had a sign that read: 'Please Open'... so we did! And what did we find?
We found a shoe! But only one! Who did it belong to?
We all tried it on to see if it fit...
The shoe did not fit anyone in the class... it was TOO BIG!
The children decided to search the classroom for the other shoe, but could not find it. Then someone suggested we have a look outside. We did not find the shoe, but we did find lots of pictures!
When we looked at all of the pictures together we realised that they might be characters from a story.
On Wednesday we received an envelope and inside was a letter from the Fairy Godmother:
Wednesday 11th September 2019
Dear 1T,
Please can you help me?
There is a problem, you see?
One of my fairy tale friends has lost their shoe,
And I just do not know what to do!
Have you seen the other shoe?
Can you help me write the clues?
Perhaps you could make some signs,
And I’ll make mine.
Thank you for being so kind,
And for sharing your great minds!
From
The Fairy Godmother
The children then designed 'Lost and Found' posters to help the Fairy Godmother.
On Friday the children noticed another parcel in the classroom... and inside was...
A PAIR of shoes!
The children then helped to write letters to the Fairy Godmother to tell her we had found the shoe.
Some children used 'more' and 'less' pegs to find numbers that were more than or less than a given number.
Some children played a game where they had to 'steal' a number card from one of their friends!
Some children made play dough and we used it to discuss the terms: bending, stretching, rolling.
