More or Less?

This week we have been exploring the terms more and less in Maths. We have used cubes, interactive games and large number cards on the floor. These activities have enabled the children to explore number names, number order and patterns in numbers. We have also written numbers to show our answers.
The children have enjoyed taking part in Chilli Challenges where they have been able to choose to explore larger numbers (up to 100).

In English this week we have continued to focus on the story of The Elves and the Shoemaker. The children have really enjoyed taking on the roles of the different characters to act out the story. They pretended to be the Shoemaker and designed some clothes for the elves. The children used their phonic knowledge to sound out words to add labels to their pictures.

As part of our Topic we have compared the toys we play with to those our parents played with. We discussed the different materials. We found that most new toys are made from plastic. We were surprised to learn that our parents also played with Lego! We sorted the toys into 'old' and 'new', explaining our choices in sentences. We talked about which toys we would prefer to play with. Most of the children chose the new toys because 'They are more interesting' and 'they are brighter colours'.
